Hin hliðin...

Ég hef verið að leita að sjónarmiðum hinna, þ.e. fjölþjóða fyrirtækjanna, auðhringjanna, valdamannanna, í bók Arundhati's The Algebra of infinite justice.

Roy Arundhati’s Side

The Other Side

Against globalization of corporations because it

a) Abuses the poor and powerless

b) It is governed by money and profit, not love and sympathy

Supports globalization of corporations because it

a) Helps underdeveloped nations to strengthen their economy

b) Creates opportunities for progress

Against the nuclear bomb because it

a) Saws fear in people’s hearts

b) Challenges god/threatens the earth

c) Is the end of life, end of imagination

d) It builds on the notion that what deters you also deter them

With the nuclear bomb because

a) It repels the enemy, the deterrence theory at work

b) It shows that India is a powerful country

c) People can protect themselves from the consequences of the bomb

Supports peace, against war because

a) War just calls on more miserable people

b) War creates hate and revengeful minds

c) War will not lead to a peaceful solution

d) War does not ask why terrorism exists or why individuals become terrorists

e) Peace is the basis for a good, loving life

Supports war against terrorism because

a) Terrorists must see and feel that they are outlaws everywhere

b) War can only be stopped by fighting back

c) No negotiation with terrorists

d) It is the only way to stop the terrorists

Against the Narmada Dam because

a) The people living on the land that goes under water have not been consulted

b) Ancient culture will be washed away

c) It is so big that no one can measure the effect it will have

d) The profit will end in the hands of the few rich; the people who lose their land get nothing

e) CEOs of the dam corporations do not see how their work ruins the lives of thousands of people

f) The project is so big that nobody can calculate or forecast its impact on nature

For the Narmada Dam because it

a) Will bring India’s one billion people into the digital network

b) Will support a revolution in information and intellectual capital

c) The Indians are familiar with dams and irrigation

d) Will bring water to millions of people

e) Will produce more electricity that other dams

f) Brings foreign capital/loans to the country

Against the privatization of the nation’s resources because

a) The people needs these resources to survive

b) Then the majority has no influence on how the resources are used

c) The corporations will be far away from the people that live in the country or work for them and will not ask for the people’s opinion

d) The foreign private business is seeking for cheap labor

Support privatization of resources

a) The public business is not producing enough power, it is insolvent

b) India will savor progress

c) The World Bank will bring capital into India

Supports democracy, openness, ethical decision

Against the power of few wealthy nations and individuals, dishonest, unethical

Supports life and simplicity

Supports capital

Supports emotions

Supports progression
